Yes. And my mom lives with me.

Yes!! I’ve got two different levels of clean, depending on who’s coming to visit. There’s mom clean,

Okay, good. It just occurred to me how ridiculous the whole ritual is. Seems like a performance somehow. Like I’m putting on the show that I’m a fully responsible adult that cleans and keeps house and eats properly, when really I work 2 jobs and making it out of bed in the morning is an adventure every day. But then I also have to hide things of the sexual or alcohol nature, because I can’t be that much of an adult in my mother’s eyes.

It is ridiculous. One time I barely got the place into ‘good enough’ shape by the time she arrived. I had 4 empty pizza boxes stacked on the stove. She asked me if there was a party, and I said no, I’d just been writing a paper for a couple weeks.

nichellen is a smarty, and has a cleaner on speed dial *sigh*

Yeah, I really didn’t have it “mom clean” by the time she showed up. She also arrived early to throw me off I think, lol. And she sees the mess that is my paper-covered desk and asks if I’m ever going to throw anything away.

Cleaner on speed dial is GENIUS. I must look into this.

Does anyone else that lives on their own feel like when you’re preparing for a visit from the parental units, you’re not so much cleaning house as you are hiding the fact that you’re an adult?
